Project Name: V8Livatars
Project Type: Icons
Status: Active
Year: 2005
About:
V8Livatars (V8 Livery Avatars) were created after the last round of the 2005 V8 Supercar season. I wanted a way of showing off the fact that Ford finished 1-2-3 in the championship and thought that I could make some sort of avatar for the forum that I was visiting at the time (V8SuperForum). I created the first avatar which featured three liveries of the cars on the podium and their numbers. It turned out fairly well so then an idea came to me that I could create one for every car on the grid for the 2006 season. Now I just had to wait for the new liveries to be released so that I could make them.
The structure of a V8Livatar is simple. It contains a recognisable part of the livery, a stylised number, the year that the livery was released and an indicator for what manufacturer the car belongs to. The first design only had the year, livery and car number. It was also made with flat colours because I wanted something simple. After two seasons, I decided to update the template and include gradients and the manufacturer. I also re-released the 2007 season and added a few special Livatars to match the liveries that some teams had changed. The template changed again for 2009 to make more room for the livery inside the frame.
While I was creating the regular season Livatars, I also thought of creating a special set of Bathurst winners that would be used in forum competitions as prizes. At the time, they looked quite good but looking back on them now I need to redesign them. After learning a few new tricks with Photoshop since 2005, I think I could give the Bathurst icons a special look that they deserve.
It can very tiring making the V8Livatars because you need each one to be unique. I try to have them released as soon as possible but sometimes liveries changed from the time of pre-season release and round one. So I have taken up the routine of designing them during the first round and have them released during the week after the first round. However, because the is so much work involved, I don't know if I will keep making them in the future. It will depend on the support for them.
